Qanlı Gol
Qanlı Gol Landscape Design was developed around the idea of transforming a large body of water and its surrounding open spaces—long underused within the city—into a holistic public landscape that reconnects nature with urban life.
At the heart of the design, the lake is considered not simply as a landscape to be viewed, but as the primary landscape element that shapes activity around it, guides movement and brings different uses together. A continuous pedestrian and cycling network extends around the lake, integrating with the waterfront promenade, woodland areas and open green spaces to form a strong public framework that connects the entire site. While preserving the character of the existing topography, changes in level are transformed into viewing areas overlooking the water and circulation routes immersed in the landscape.
The project aims to bring together a wide range of urban users within a single landscape while allowing each part of the site to retain its own distinct character. Different landscape experiences—from active social and sports areas to quieter ecological zones—are organised as complementary environments around the lake. In this way, Qanlı Gol becomes more than a recreational area with new functions; it emerges as a new urban destination where everyday life, nature, movement and social interaction are reorganised around water.
This approach seeks to preserve the site's existing natural value while integrating it into the everyday life of the city, creating a large, accessible and continuous public green space within an increasingly urbanised context. In this respect, Qanlı Gol presents a comprehensive landscape vision that contributes not only a physical transformation to its surroundings, but also ecological, social and experiential value.
